Q: What is the cost?
A: $200. Sponsorship for tiles are available upon request and approval.
Q: How do I purchase a tile?
A: On this website is a form that you can complete and print out to send along with a check or money order. Please make checks payable to “The Greater Woodlands Public Art Foundation”. On the memo line, we ask that you write “The Way Home Tile-(The name of the tile recipient)”. Address the envelope to: The Way Home Project c/o Bill Wingo 11173 Cox Road Conroe, TX 77385 You will receive a confirmation e-mail when your form and payment are received.
Q: How long after I purchase a tile can I expect to see it on the memorial?
A: Tile engraving and installation is dependent on weather, schedule of events at Town Green Park, construction approval from the Township, and the number of tiles in the batch. Typically, 6 months is experienced but some have taken longer.
Q: I want to use wording on the tile that is special to the recipient. Can I do that?
A: All wording is reviewed for appropriateness. While messages are allowed, most tiles include Name, Rank, Branch of Service, and Theater of Operation.
Q: My friend/relative served in the Merchant Marines, can I buy them a tile?
Q: I have purchased a tile before and would like to purchase another and have it next to my first tile, can you do that?
A: Only if there is an open space next to your first tile.
Q: Are the tiles only available to men who served?
A: Tiles are for those who served honorably - regardless of gender.
Q: Why are two Army soldiers shown and not those of other branches?
A: The two men depicted fought and died for their country and represent all those who have served in all branches.
Q: How are women represented on the monument?
A: The monument was conceived by Margaret Smith and Everett Ison in 2002 and Erica Wingo is pictured on the wall of the monument in battle gear while serving in the Air Force in Iraq.
